Who We Are
We are a faith-based microschool. Think “homeschool for other kids.” We welcome elementary-aged children to come and learn with other children in a personalized, safe environment that centers on Christ and His world. To do that, we read good, beautifully written books, many of which are classics. From there, we explore ideas and delve into projects and/or discussions that engage the children’s minds and bodies. Our heart is to treat children as little individuals and offer them a feast of education that will hopefully lead to a life-long love of learning. We also aim to instill a pattern of critical thinking that will equip them to view the world through a biblical lens so that they might boldly interact with information throughout life.
We lean heavily on the Charlotte Mason method, leaving behind the “spoon-fed” philosophy of education. We intentionally stay small to give little ones the attention a good education requires. To that end, we also expect the children to respect the area, the teacher, and each other.
Parent involvement is welcome and encouraged. You know your child best. Because of that, we desire to come alongside you as best as we can to support your decisions in educating your child. For some, we do most of the educating keeping the parents updated on what's going on. For others, it has more of a co-op feel where we only supplement what is being done at home. We would love to help you figure out what best fits your family and season of life!
What We Do
Our lessons are tailored for elementary kids, so they are short, often no more than 15-20 minutes. The subjects we do as a group include Bible, history, geography, science, music study, and art study. We include smaller group ELA lessons ranging from letter recognition to advanced reading, from writing development to cursive, depending on the readiness of the child. We also spend time outside in play each day. We don't do organized math lessons, but often visit math concepts throughout the other subjects.
We use a lot of books to introduce subjects, then use discussion, narration, and hands-on learning in an effort to encourage the children to think critically and interact with a concept. This helps give the kids a "hook" on which to hang information as it comes. And it makes learning more fun!
We keep our weeks short, too, in order to give kids more time to interact with and learn about life outside the classroom. Our classes are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you are interested in learning more about our philosophy, schedule, or curriculum, please give us a call or email to talk or even schedule a visit.
